Jason Isbell “Only Children” Music Video

JASON ISBELL: “ONLY CHILDREN”

What do you do at the start of a pandemic? Spend a couple nights helping your friend get a music video done for Jason Isbell, of course. Directed by Kurt Simpson at The Shop Films. I wasn’t sure if I should take it as a compliment, but Kurt asked me to play the “creepy guy” in the gas station parking lot. Guess it worked, because the young women acting the main roles literally thought I was a creepy guy in the parking lot. Not being 100% satisfied with only being in front of the camera, I couldn’t help myself and made sure some props where well appointed. Not to mention doing my own hair and makeup.

48 Hour Film Fest

48 hour film fest: Cult Classic

Making a film of any length is never easy. Add in the complexity of working with a surprise theme, a specific line of dialogue and 48 hours to write, shoot and edit – well, that’s a little insane. The final outcome isn’t always perfect, but a ton of fun to do. On “Cult Classic”, I put on many hats, the most important being the practical FX guy. I think I had the most fun pulling together the musicians and producing the audio session for the end credits.

48 hour film fest: Love What you eat, eat what you love

A talking baguette. It doesn’t get much more absurd than that. This one was all about trying to find the concept, and when we did, the puns just started rolling. It was a bit challenging to get the mouth figured out right and make sure we could get the compositing done in time. I love the climatic final scene. So much over-the-top drama!

48 hour film fest: Down The Donut Hole

Not sure if this one feels a little TOO real right now, but it was fun to create. Mostly did writing duties on this short. The actors did such a great job though. I think that as soon as you say “lizard people” and “inter dimensional beings”, you’ve got me.

48 hour film fest: The Specialist

I worked on the practical FX and titles on this short. Special guest appearance by my dad’s vintage embalming bag. What a fun prop. It’s fun to drag it out for things like this, since it has so much character.

Idea Killers Podcast

Idea Killers: Podcast by Director Matt Pitroff

I’ve worked with Matt Pittroff quite a few times. He’s one of the hardest working directors I know. Over the course of the pandemic, Matt wanted to try something different. So he started a podcast where he would interview various creatives about their experiences and in particular, what are the drivers and barriers to getting good ideas made. I was humbled that he asked me to be interviewed. If you get a chance, take a listen to the other creatives he’s talked to and take a gander at Matt’s reel while you’re at it.
